Today, I took off for no reason; felt bored…when I finished download a film I found this error
‘Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.’ before clicking the avi file.
And the Error signature says,
‘AppName: explorer.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.2894 ModName: xvid.ax
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 0003dd11′
Then the error message asked for OK | Debug | Close.
This is probably caused by the Xvid video filter. Explorer crashes because the Xvid video filter has encountered a problem while generating the thumbnails for your Xvid-encoded video files.
Since Modname showed as xvid.ax, its obvious to find that the problem is with the xvid codec. Then did a search for xvid.ax in all files and folders, if there is a copy of it in system32 then its meant for data corruption is all I know. As search results, the duplicate xvid.ax codec is found in system32 folder. After its deletion, all works fine.
You can download the xvid codecs from here http://www.xvidmovies.com/codec/
